Top Tips for a Summer Camping Holiday

Camping can be a great holiday, both alone, with friends, or with the family, but if you’re a first-time camper, you might not know how to start planning your camping holiday. To make this process easier, we’ve compiled some top tips to help you have the best summer camping holiday possible.

Check you have everything before you leave
This might seem like an obvious one, but it’s worth double checking that you have everything before you leave! You don’t want to arrive and realise you forgot your tent pegs! Writing a list and ticking it off as you pack is a great way to make sure you do this.

Check what pitch you book
If you know that you’ll need electric while you’re away, make sure you have an electric hook-up pitch booked. It’s also worth checking what size pitch you have booked, so that you don’t take a tent or caravan that’s too big for your pitch with you.

Double up on your tent size
While a tent might claim to be a ‘two-man tent’, it’s worth doubling up on the size. Once you’ve got all of your stuff and air mattresses inside, it can suddenly seem a lot cozier than you expect! If you get a tent that’s double how many people will be inside, you’ll definitely have enough comfortable space to relax in.

Get a decent sleeping bag
If you only have the money to splash out on one piece of camping equipment, it’s best to make this the sleeping bag. A cheap tent will still do its job, but a cheap sleeping bag might lead to some cold, uncomfortable nights. Make sure you get a sleeping bag that isn’t too big for you, as this will leave more air inside that needs to warm up, and try and get one that’s more padded so that it’s more comfortable.

Pack for cold weather
Even if you’re holidaying in the summer and you think it’s going to be warm, remember that there’s no heating in a tent, and it can be a lot colder at night than you expect! This is especially true if you’re camping in the UK, we all know the weather here can be unpredictable, so it’s best to pack a few extra layers just in case

Plan meals and activities before you go
If you plan before you leave you’re more likely to have a good time. This means planning meals, so that you don’t end up eating rice or noodles for the last few days, and planning activities – camping is exciting but sitting around all day with nothing to do, especially if you have children, can become a bit boring, so if you plan activities you won’t get stuck at the campsite all day.

Choose a good campsite
Again, this may seem obvious, but you’d be surprised by how different some campsites can be. Check out where your campsite is placed, the facilities they have available, and decide whether it’s the write campsite for you. Here at Woodhill Park we have all the facilities you’d need, a wide range of pitch types, and we’re located in a great place, so we’re a great choice for all types of camping groups.
